Our Mission
Our
beginnings are
simple, yet meaningful. We were conceived by the Sisters of Providence,
who founded Providence Hospitality House as a ministry to homeless
women with children. Since our inception, we have provided these
families with a place to feel safe and supported and the resources to
help them find their way. We define our mission in this way:
To provide a temporary home for women with children in crisis.
While our mission is what we do, the way we do it is what makes us
unique. We are not about numbers served, but about the depth of
services we can offer the families in our care as we go beyond the
basic needs of food and shelter to address other important human needs
such as self-esteem, love, safety, comfort, support, acceptance and
respect. Without these, some may survive. We seek to help people thrive.
Our Role in
the World
We
are not merely
a shelter. Nor are we a safe house or just a safety net. We are more
than all of these things put together, because we recognize the
inherent strength in people if given the chance. In our home, families
are given the time to let down their guard, and gain the strength and
perspective needed for change. As a result, we are…
A refuge for transformation
This means that we provide a safe environment where our clients and
their families can take shelter, gather themselves, encounter grace and
start anew. We provide a real home where families can eat, work and
play together while learning more about each other and themselves.
Through advocacy, education and referral services, we help them build
the foundation for their next step into permanent housing—their
next step in life.
Our Values
We
do things a bit
differently here. Partly because of our history as a ministry and
partly because we know the human spirit requires more to really thrive.
We believe in a few fundamental things that guide our approach to
everyday decisions and how we conduct ourselves. They bring us together
and keep us aligned on our path of service.
Here are the values we choose to live by…we value:
Respect: For
individual circumstances, histories, diversity and
cultures. Our differences make us richer, bring us together and make us
whole.
Advocacy: Working
hard, in concert with our partners and the
community, to provide our clients with what they need to succeed.
Commitment to the
Individual: Providing one-on-one attention,
counsel and support to the families with tireless follow-through and
accountability to them and our partners that support them.
Grace: The
opportunity everyone deserves to experience love and dignity, cultivate
self-worth, and transform themselves.
Compassion:
Acknowledging the human vulnerability and strength all
around us. Walking side by side with our clients in their
transformations and helping them to cultivate a greater self worth.
